AUSTRAC enrolment opens 31st March for Aussie businesses

AUSTRAC enrolment opens 31st March

AUSTRAC enrolment opens 31 March: Here’s what you need to do

Enrolment is opening soon for Tranche 2 regulated entities. It’s not a heavy lift, but it does expect you to be organised. If your business information is clear and consistent, the process is straightforward.

Here’s what to sort out now so you’re not scrambling later.

AUSTRAC enrolment - things you need to do

First things first

Before enrolling your business to AUSTRAC for Tranche 2, you must first create a user account.

Once your user account is created, log in to access the AUSTRAC business profile form (ABPF) to get started on your enrolment.

You can enrol with AUSTRAC from March 31st 2026. You must enrol by July 29th at the latest if you provide any designated services.

Your business identity

Start with the basics. These are the details that define your business on paper, and they need to line up with official records:

  • Legal name and any trading names
  • ABN, ACN or other relevant identifiers
  • Registered and principal business addresses
  • Country of registration
  • Contact details, including a main point of contact
  • Website domains

What your business actually does

You’ll need to clearly describe your services in a way that fits AUSTRAC’s framework. No jargon required - just be accurate:

  • The services you provide that fall under AML/CTF
  • When you expect to start providing them
  • Confirmation that you operate in Australia
  • The industry you operate in

How your business is structured

AUSTRAC isn’t just interested in what you do - they want to know who’s behind it.

If you operate as anything other than a sole trader, be ready to outline:

  • Your legal structure (company, trust, partnership, etc.)
  • Directors or key decision-makers
  • Beneficial owners (the people who ultimately control or benefit)
  • Any parent or holding entities

Snapshot of your operations

You’ll also be asked for some high-level context about your business:

  • Team size
  • Approximate annual turnover
  • Any industry memberships or affiliations
  • Your main business activity

Who owns compliance internally

You’ll need to nominate an AML/CTF Compliance Officer.

This is the person responsible for overseeing your compliance obligations and dealing with AUSTRAC. It doesn’t need to be their full-time job, but it does need to be clearly assigned.

If no one has been tapped for this yet, it’s a conversation worth having now rather than under deadline pressure.

Get ahead of it

Enrolment itself is straightforward. The friction comes from unclear information, not the process.

If you want to make this easy, start pulling everything together now. Better yet, start building out your AML program early so enrolment becomes a confirmation step, not a starting point.

If you need a hand making sense of any of it, that’s exactly where APLYiD comes in.
